The Hairdresser's Husband

Antoine has carried one wish since childhood: to marry a hairdresser. As a boy he was drawn to the intimacy of the salon, the touch, the scent and the presence of the woman who cut his hair, and he announced the plan to his parents only to be cuffed by his father. The desire stayed with him. Years later, in the provincial town where he lives, a hairdresser named Mathilde arrives, and Antoine proposes to her almost at once. They marry, and the film follows the unusual life the two build together around her small shop.

Patrice Leconte directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Claude Klotz. It sits in the middle of the director's filmography, arriving between The Specialists and French Fried Vacations 3: Friends Forever. Jean Rochefort plays Antoine and Anna Galiena plays Mathilde, with Roland Bertin as Antoine's father and supporting turns from Maurice Chevit, Philippe Clévenot and Jacques Mathou. The production was French, made by TF1 Films Production with CNC, AMLF and Investimage 2. It runs 82 minutes and took about 1 million USD worldwide.

On IMDb the film holds 7.1/10 from 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.8/10 from 232 votes. A critics' rating of 8.1/10 from 12 reviews places it above both audience scores.
