Kandasamys: The Baby

Jennifer and Shanti, the two mothers at the centre of the Kandasamy and Naidoo families, travel to Mauritius for the arrival of their grandchild. Once there, their long-running rivalry takes over as each tries to outdo the other, and the expectant parents' own needs slip to the side amid the resulting confusion and mishaps.

The film is a South African comedy directed by Jayan Moodley, who also produced it and wrote the screenplay with Jailoshini Naidoo and Yugan Naidoo. It runs 93 minutes and comes from the production companies African Lotus and Urban Vision Productions. The cast is led by Jailoshini Naidoo as Jennifer Kandasamy, Maeshni Naicker as Shanti Naidoo, Mariam Bassa as Aya Kandasamy, Mishqah Parthiephal as Jodi Naidoo, Madhushan Singh as Prishen Naidoo and Koobeshen Naidoo as Elvis Kandasamy, with 23 credited cast members and 115 credited crew overall.

For Moodley it is the first of the two films she has directed to date, followed by Meet the Khumalos in 2025. It forms part of a series centred on the two families, and it was released in October 2023.
