How to Build a Library

This historical documentary follows two women in Nairobi who seek to convert a former library into a cultural center. The building had been restricted to white patrons until 1958, and the protagonists must now address the remnants of Kenya's colonial history. To achieve their goal, they work to secure millions in funding for the renovation while managing the complexities of local politics.

The film was produced as a joint venture between the United Kingdom and Kenya, involving production companies such as Doc Society and Fork Films. It was directed by Maia Lekow and Christopher King, who both served as producers and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Ricardo Acosta. The finished project has a runtime of 103 minutes and was released on November 21, 2025.
