Fiume o morte!

This historical documentary and comedy examines the political legacy of Gabriele D’Annunzio, an Italian aristocrat, poet, and army officer. Following the First World War, D’Annunzio led soldiers to occupy the city of Fiume, now located in Croatia, in an effort to establish a new state and annex the territory to Italy. The film uses archival footage, interviews with local residents, and dramatic recreations to explore how this sixteen-month occupation reflected the beginnings of fascism.

The film was directed and written by Igor Bezinović and produced by Vanja Jambrović, Tibor Keser, and Erica Barbiani. It is a co-production between Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia, involving the companies Nosorogi, Restart, and Videomante. The cast features Izet Medošević, Ćenan Beljulji, Albano Vučetić, Tihomir Buterin, and Andrea Marsanich appearing as themselves, while archive footage depicts Gabriele D'Annunzio.
