The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

Set during the Qing Dynasty, this action and adventure film follows a young man who supports a resistance movement against the Manchu government. After the government discovers the plot and kills his father and teacher, the protagonist flees to the Shaolin Temple. He seeks to master the monks' secret martial arts to avenge his losses. To achieve this, he must undergo a rigorous series of trials and training exercises across thirty-five chambers.

The film was directed by Lau Kar-leung and produced by Shaw Brothers in Hong Kong. It is the third film in a chronological list of the director's works, preceding Shaolin Mantis. The screenplay was written by Ni Kuang, and the production was produced by Run Run Shaw and Mona Fong. The cast features Gordon Liu Chia-hui in the lead role as Liu Yu-de, also known as Monk San Ta, alongside Lo Lieh, John Cheung Ng-Long, and Wilson Tong. A total of 60 actors are credited in the production.
