The Forbidden Dance

Nisa, a princess from an Amazonian tribe, travels to Los Angeles to stop a conglomerate whose plans threaten the rainforest, but she struggles to find a way to make her cause heard. She meets Jason Anderson, a young man from a wealthy family, who convinces her that television is the platform she needs. To draw the media's attention to her people's plight, the two set out to win a lambada dance contest, while the businessman Benjamin Maxwell continues to pursue his interests regardless of the damage they cause.

Greydon Clark directed the film from a screenplay by John Platt and Roy Langsdon. It was Clark's sixth feature, following Black Shampoo, Hi-Riders, Without Warning, The Return and Joysticks. Laura Harring plays Nisa, with Jeff James as Jason Anderson, Ángela Moya as Carmen, Sid Haig as Joa, Barbra Brighton as Ashley Wells and Richard Lynch as Benjamin Maxwell. The production involved Columbia Pictures, 21st Century Film Corporation and Sawmill Entertainment Corporation, and the film runs 97 minutes.

Released in March 1990, the film draws on the lambada dance craze of that period. Audience responses are mixed: on IMDb it holds a rating of 4 out of 10 from around 2,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 100 votes.
