Genie

Bernard Bottle is a workaholic whose life has fallen apart: he missed his daughter's birthday, his wife has left him, and he has lost his job just before Christmas. When he comes into possession of an antique jewellery box, he accidentally releases Flora, a genie who has been trapped inside it for more than two thousand years. Flora is unfamiliar with the modern world, and Bernard introduces her to his everyday life. In return, he asks for one thing: to have his family back with him in time for the holiday.

The film is a British-American comedy fantasy directed by Sam Boyd, following his 2018 debut In a Relationship, and written by Richard Curtis. Melissa McCarthy plays Flora, with Paapa Essiedu as Bernard, Denée Benton as Julie Bottle, Jordyn McIntosh as Eve Bottle, Alan Cumming as Flaxman and Marc Maron as Lenny among a credited cast of 26. It was produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Riva Marker, and runs 93 minutes.
