- The film company Castle Rock Entertainment is named after Castle Rock, Maine – a fictional town where the heroes of many of Stephen King's books live.
- Filming took place in Canada, in the province of Nova Scotia.
- The sets for Joe St. George's house were built in an empty paper mill workshop in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.
- A scene in which Dolores breaks all of her mother-in-law's china was not included in the final version of the film.
- A fire on the set caused $1 million in damage.
- The ferry seen at 1:47 is named after Joshua Slocum, a Canadian-American sailor and explorer, the first person to circumnavigate the globe single-handedly.
