The film is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.
The film company Castle Rock Entertainment is named after Castle Rock, Maine – a fictional town where the heroes of many of Stephen King's books live.
Filming took place in Canada, in the province of Nova Scotia.
The sets for Joe St. George's house were built in an empty paper mill workshop in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.
