Citizen Weiner

Citizen Weiner is a documentary centered on New York City actor Zack Weiner. During the 2020 shutdown of the film industry, Weiner and his friend Joe decided to launch a project that blended fiction with reality. The film follows their attempt to produce a movie about running for a seat on the city council while simultaneously pursuing a real political campaign for that position.

Directed by Daniel Robbins, this was the first of two films directed by Robbins, preceding his 2025 project Bad Shabbos. The cast features Zack Weiner in the role of the candidate, with Joe Gallagher appearing as the campaign manager. Other cast members include Sarah Coffey as communications, James C. Watson as the finance director and minister, Aaron Dalla Villa as security, and Elliot Allen as the campaign intern. The United States production has a runtime of 83 minutes and was released on January 19, 2024.
