Short description

Denji is a demon hunter who possesses the heart of a devil. Amidst a violent conflict involving hunters and secret adversaries, he meets a mysterious girl named Reze who works at a cafe. While their relationship initially blossoms, Reze's true nature eventually leads Denji into a dangerous and explosive confrontation where love and survival collide.

The film was directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara and written by Hiroshi Seko. It marks the first entry in a list of three films directed by Yoshihara, followed by two compilation movies released later in 2025. Produced by MAPPA in Japan, the animation features the voices of Kikunosuke Toya, Tomori Kusunoki, Reina Ueda, Shogo Sakata, Karin Takahashi, and Fairouz Ai.

Financially, the movie was a significant success, earning 191 million USD against a 4 million USD budget. It has been well received by audiences, holding an 8.3 rating on IMDb from 49,000 votes and an 8.6 rating on TMDB from 1,197 votes. Professional critics gave the film a slightly lower rating of 8.1 based on 47 reviews, though the general sentiment remains positive across both groups.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In the final fight between Denji and Reze (voiced by Kikusuke Toya and Reina Ueda, respectively) on the roof, the windows in the building in the background light up to form numbers, representing a countdown of the remaining time.
  • At the very beginning of the film, Denji (voiced by Kikusuke Toya) is shown riding a black-and-white horse. This is a reference to "The Horse in Motion," the famous series of photographs by English photographer Eadweard Muybridge in 1878, which became a crucial step in the development of cinema.
