Short description

This documentary follows the true story of Steven Callahan, who survived a harrowing ordeal after a whale collided with his boat on February 4, 1982. After his vessel sank quickly, Callahan spent 76 days drifting across the Atlantic Ocean on an inflatable life raft with only an emergency kit and no initial supply of food or water. The film examines his struggle for survival and the internal strength he discovered while facing his own limitations. The narrative is supported by first-person accounts, original photographs, 8mm footage, and reconstructions of the event.

The film was directed by Joe Wein and written by Steve Callahan, who also served as an executive producer and appears as himself. This production focuses on the events detailed in Callahan's bestselling book. Released on July 10, 2025, the documentary has a runtime of 108 minutes.
