Demba

Set in a small town in Northern Senegal, this drama follows Demba, a 55-year-old man preparing to retire from a three-decade career at the local city hall. During a hot summer, he struggles to cope with the grief of losing his wife two years prior. As his mental well-being declines, he works to rebuild a relationship with his son, from whom he had been estranged.

The film was written and directed by Mamadou Dia, marking the first entry in a list of two films he has directed, followed by Atcha Atcha in 2026. The production was a collaboration between Germany, Qatar, and Senegal, involving the companies NiKo Film and Joyedidi. The cast is led by Ben Mahmoud Mbow in the title role, appearing alongside Awa Djiga Kané, Mamadou Sylla, Aïcha Talla, Saikou Lô, and Mamadou Bayo Sarr. With a runtime of 116 minutes, the movie premiered on February 17, 2024.
