The Last Showgirl

The Last Showgirl follows Shelly, a longtime dancer in a Las Vegas revue that has been running for decades. When the show is suddenly announced to be closing after thirty years, Shelly, now in her fifties, has to figure out what comes next. The production has been her life and the other performers have become a kind of family, so its end forces her to confront choices she made in the past, including a strained relationship with her daughter Hannah, whom she largely put second to her stage career. Her friend Annette, a cocktail server, is among those around her as she faces the final performances.

Gia Coppola directed the film, her third feature after Palo Alto (2014) and Mainstream (2021), from a screenplay by Kate Gersten. Pamela Anderson leads the cast as Shelly, with Jamie Lee Curtis as Annette, Dave Bautista as Eddie, Brenda Song as Mary-Anne, Kiernan Shipka as Jodie and Billie Lourd as Hannah. Made for about 2 million dollars, it earned roughly 7 million worldwide.

Reception sits in mixed-to-positive territory. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 21,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 314 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 6.9 out of 10 from 238 reviews. The audience scores are therefore somewhat lower than the critics' average, though all three land in a similar middle range rather than pointing to strongly divided opinion.
