A group of young friends heads to a remote part of the Texas woods for a weekend away, staying at a relative's long-abandoned cabin. A car accident on the way forces them to continue on foot, and they soon sense they are not alone. The legends told about the area, dismissed by the friends as stories, turn out to have substance when they realise a creature is hunting them. They must survive the weekend instead of enjoying it. The film is a found-footage horror piece, and Brian sets out to capture on camera the being that frightened his uncle away from the property.
Eduardo Sánchez directed, working from a screenplay by Jamie Nash. Exists sits between the V/H/S/2 segment and Satanic Hispanics in Sánchez's filmography; he had previously directed The Blair Witch Project, Curse of the Blair Witch, Altered and Lovely Molly. The cast includes Dora Madison, Samuel Davis, Roger Edwards, Chris Osborn, Denise Williamson and Brian Steele as Sasquatch, with Mark Ordesky, Robin Cowie and Jane Fleming producing. Released in 2014 after premiering in March of that year, it runs 81 minutes.
Reception has been modest. On IMDb it holds 5.2/10 from around 12,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5/10 from roughly 396 votes. The critics' rating comes in at 5.1/10 from 22 reviews, close to the audience scores and indicating a similar, fairly muted response from both groups.
