Too Many Cooks

Too Many Cooks is a short comedy that starts as a parody of American sitcom opening sequences from the 1970s and 1980s. The theme song introduces an ever-growing parade of family members and neighbours, and it refuses to stop. As the credits keep rolling, a killer moves through the same household, targeting the Cook family one by one. Comedy, crime, horror and science fiction elements overlap as the cheerful titles give way to something far darker.

Casper Kelly wrote and directed the eleven-minute piece, which was produced by Alex Orr for Williams Street, Adult Swim and Fake Wood Wallpaper and first aired in late October 2014. It is the earliest entry in Kelly's filmography, predating Adult Swim Yule Log 2: Branchin' Out, V/H/S/Halloween and Buddy. William Tokarsky plays the killer, with Katie Adkins, Nilsa Castro, Katelyn Nacon, Linda Miller and Ken DeLozier among the Cook family; twenty-seven performers are credited in all.

The short has become one of the better-known Adult Swim oddities, and viewers rate it highly: on IMDb it holds 8.4 out of 10 from roughly 5,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.7 out of 10 from about 150 votes. The much larger IMDb sample and the narrower TMDB one point to a widely seen piece with a devoted audience.
