Short description
Vampire housemates try to cope with the complexities of modern life and show a newly turned hipster some of the perks of being undead.
What's left behind the scenes
- Over 120 hours of footage was shot, most of which was improvisation by the actors playing the main roles.
- The bars and nightclubs visited by the vampires are real establishments located in Wellington's entertainment district (New Zealand).
- Taika Waititi based the image of his character on his own mother. And Jemaine Clement drew inspiration for his role from Gary Oldman's portrayal in the film Dracula.
- At the end of the film, during the beginning of the credits, the song "Lastochka" by the band "Leningrad" plays.
- During the bar scene, when Polina is first shown, the song “The Captain” by The Phoenix Foundation plays in the background. The band was founded in Wellington, New Zealand, where the film was shot.
- The hill where the confrontation between vampires and werewolves takes place is the same hill that Frodo and the other hobbits ran across in the film "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001) while fleeing the Black Riders. They also hid in the roots of a tree on this hill.
