Gaps

This documentary focuses on Mariona, who was detained at age seventeen in 1969 and held in a reformatory run by the Patronato de Protección a la Mujer. This institution aimed to rehabilitate women deemed fallen during the Francoist dictatorship. Decades later, in 2023, Mariona and her daughter work together to reconstruct the details of her experience and address the silence that persisted across generations.

The film was co-directed by Isa Luengo, Sofia Esteve, and Marina Freixa Roca, who also shared screenwriting duties. For Luengo and Esteve, this was the first of two listed projects, followed by The Wanderers in 2026. Marina Freixa Roca directed this film before working on PRINCESA, 20 in 2026. The production was a collaboration between Nocturna Pictures and Vayolet Films in Spain. The cast features Mariona Roca and Marina Freixa Roca appearing as themselves. This short film has a runtime of 19 minutes and was released on March 8, 2024.
