The Hidden

A wave of violent crime sweeps through Los Angeles, committed not by career criminals but by ordinary, law-abiding people who abruptly abandon their lives and turn to theft and murder. Detective Tom Beck leads the investigation, and he is paired with Lloyd Gallagher, a young FBI agent whose reserved manner and unusual logic make him difficult to read. Gallagher claims to be pursuing the man who killed his wife and child, but he understands far more about the case than he admits, and his knowledge points toward something not human. Jack Sholder directed the film, which followed his Alone in the Dark and A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge and preceded 12:01, Generation X, Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies, Supernova and Arachnid.

Jim Kouf wrote the screenplay, and Robert Shaye, Gerald T. Olson and Michael L. Meltzer produced. Kyle MacLachlan plays Gallagher opposite Michael Nouri as Beck, with Ed O'Ross, Claudia Christian, William Boyett and Chris Mulkey in supporting roles. The production cost about 5 million dollars and returned roughly 10 million worldwide, a solid multiple for a genre release of its size.

A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 34 reviews places it close to the audience score, suggesting a film that has been received similarly by reviewers and viewers across the decades since its 1987 release.
