Breakfast of Champions

Dwayne Hoover runs the largest car dealership in Midland City and is a wealthy, well-known local figure. His life, however, is coming apart. His wife Celia is dependent on pills and television, his son George has ambitions of his own, and his sales manager Harry is preoccupied with a secret habit he fears his boss has discovered. His mistress Francine, meanwhile, is pressing him about where their relationship is going. Into this turmoil comes Kilgore Trout, a science fiction writer travelling toward Midland City, whose arrival may push Dwayne further off balance.

Breakfast of Champions is a 1999 American comedy-drama directed by Alan Rudolph, who also wrote the screenplay, and it is based on Kurt Vonnegut's novel. It followed Rudolph's Afterglow and was the sixth of the films he directed across the period listed. Bruce Willis plays Dwayne Hoover, with Albert Finney as Kilgore Trout. Nick Nolte, Barbara Hershey, Glenne Headly and Lukas Haas are also among the cast, which numbers 56 credited performers.

The film had a budget of about 12 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.6 from roughly 8,800 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5 from about 122 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 from 50 reviews places it in similar territory to those audience scores, with neither group rating it highly.
