Short description
Violet, a widowed mother, attends her first date in several years at a high-end restaurant. Although she is initially pleased by the charm and appearance of her date, Henry, the evening turns into a nightmare. An unknown person begins sending anonymous messages to her phone that start as irritations but escalate into terrifying threats. Violet is forced to follow the instructions of the stranger to protect her young son from harm.
The mystery thriller was directed by Christopher Landon, following his previous work on We Have a Ghost. The film stars Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar, with additional roles played by Reed Diamond, Violett Beane, Jeffery Self, and Jacob Robinson. Produced by Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and Platinum Dunes, the movie had a budget of 11 million USD and earned 29 million USD at the worldwide box office.
Audience reception was moderate, with a rating of 6.1/10 on IMDb from 55,000 votes and 6.3/10 on TMDB from 964 votes. Film critics gave the movie a slightly higher rating of 6.6/10 based on 235 reviews.

- Director Christopher Landon said that the finished film differed significantly from the original script. The script stated that the man who pursued Violet (played by Megan Fayhee) was the brother of her deceased husband, and that his desire for her to kill Henry (played by Brandon Sklenar) was motivated by a desire to avenge his late brother, who had bullied him in the past. Landon suggested making Henry a more significant figure in the overall narrative, and the script was revised accordingly.
