Belly of the Beast

Jake Hopper, a former CIA operative, learns that his daughter Jessica has been abducted while travelling in Thailand with a senator's daughter. The kidnappers demand the release of imprisoned terrorists, and the American government's reading of the group's motives leaves Hopper unconvinced. He flies to Bangkok, reconnects with Sunti, a partner from his intelligence days, and works his old contacts through the Thai underworld in search of the women. What begins as a rescue widens into a conflict involving a corrupt general and arms traffickers.

The film was directed by Tony Ching Siu-Tung, the tenth of the thirteen features he has directed, arriving after Naked Weapon and before An Empress and the Warriors. Steven Seagal plays Hopper and co-wrote the screenplay with James Townsend, with Byron Mann as Sunti, Monica Lo Suk-Yee as Lulu, Tom Wu as General Jantapan, and Sara Malakul Lane as Jessica. It was produced by George Furla, Randall Emmett and Gary Howsam for a budget of about 14 million dollars, and runs 91 minutes.

Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 4.6 out of 10 from roughly 7,100 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from around 198 votes.
