Only Godard

Only Godard is a documentary that examines the creative methodology and worldview of filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. To explore his approach to constructing and deconstructing cinema, the directors utilize a storage warehouse containing archives Godard kept in Switzerland. The film employs a duplicate of the director to act as a guide, incorporating excerpts from his writings and images to illustrate his techniques and perspective. David Legrand provides a voice for the filmmaker, using fragments from video essays produced between 1974 and 2018 to investigate the nature of his thought process.

Produced in France by Ardèche Images Production, the film was directed by Arnaud Lambert and Vincent Sorrel. The cast features Jean-Luc Godard appearing as himself, with David Legrand performing as the voice of Godard. The project was produced by Jean-Marie Barbe and has a total runtime of 88 minutes. It was released on March 15, 2024.
