Revolution

Set during the American Revolution, Revolution follows Tom Dobb, a New York trapper who wants nothing to do with the growing rebellion against British rule. When his son Ned is taken into the army, Tom sets out to find him and is drawn into the fighting himself. His path crosses that of Daisy McConnahay, a wealthy young woman who has sided with the colonial cause, and Sergeant Major Peasy, the British officer responsible for Ned's conscription. What begins as a personal search becomes a commitment to the struggle for independence, seen through the eyes of ordinary people caught up in a war not of their making.

Hugh Hudson directed the film, which came after his earlier features Chariots of Fire and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Robert Dillon wrote the screenplay, and Irwin Winkler produced. Al Pacino plays Tom Dobb, with Donald Sutherland as Peasy, Nastassja Kinski as Daisy, and Joan Plowright, Dave King and Dexter Fletcher among the credited cast of thirty-four. The production, made by Goldcrest and Viking Film in the United Kingdom and Norway, had a budget of 28 million dollars.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.3 from around 8,200 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 from 133 votes. A critics' rating of 3.4 from 21 reviews places it below both audience figures, indicating a largely negative critical response at the time of release.
