Short description
She's Having a Baby follows Jake and Kristy Briggs, a young couple who marry after high school and settle into a new home in the suburbs of Chicago. Jake works as an advertising copywriter while nursing unfulfilled ambitions of becoming a novelist, and the everyday routine of married life soon replaces the excitement of their early days together. Pressure from their parents to start a family adds to the tension, and when Kristy becomes pregnant, Jake finds himself unprepared for what marriage and impending fatherhood actually demand of him. His friend Davis, who drifts in and out of their lives, complicates matters further.
John Hughes wrote, produced and directed the film, the sixth in the sequence of features he directed, coming between Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck. Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern play the couple, with Alec Baldwin as Davis and supporting turns from William Windom, Holland Taylor and Cathryn Damon among a credited cast of 71. The production carried a budget of 20 million USD and returned 16 million USD worldwide, a modest result by the standards of Hughes's recent work.
On IMDb the film holds 6 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from 232 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 44 reviews places it close to, and slightly below, those audience figures, indicating a muted reception across both groups at the time of its release.

- John Hughes (1950-2009) shot this film concurrently with two other movies – "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987) and "Uncle Buck" (1988). Actors who appeared in those two comedies make cameo appearances at the end of the film.
- John Travolta was considered for the role of Jake, but the studio disapproved of the idea.
- At the beginning of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987), Steve Martin’s character races to a taxi with Kevin Bacon’s character. Later (around the 22nd minute), there’s a scene where Martin’s character’s wife is lying in bed watching television. In the background, sounds of an argument can be heard from the show she’s watching (also directed by Hughes). It's the argument between Bacon’s and Elizabeth McGovern’s characters, where she yells about disliking his friend’s girlfriend.
