Set in 1952, this documentary follows Anita Conti, the first female oceanographer in France. During a six-month voyage on an Atlantic trawler, Conti lived among a crew of sixty men to record the grueling reality of cod fishing. The film utilizes her original photographs and 16mm footage to examine the strength of the ocean and the difficult labor of the sailors, while highlighting Conti's early efforts to advocate for the protection of marine environments.
Directed by Louise Hémon, this was the first of two films she has directed, preceding her 2025 work The Girl in the Snow. Hémon also co-wrote the screenplay with Aurélie Brousse. Produced by Hutong Productions in France, the film features Anita Conti appearing as herself. The 38-minute production focuses on reprocessing unique historical archival material to reveal the beauty and depth of the original documentation.
