Serving Sara
Short description
Serving Sara is a comedy about a process server whose routine assignment turns into something far more complicated. Joe Tyler tracks down Sara Moore, a wealthy Englishwoman who has built a cattle ranch fortune in Texas with her husband Gordon, to hand her divorce papers. Rather than accept the situation, Sara proposes a deal: if Joe delivers the divorce papers to Gordon first, she stands to keep control of the ranch, and she offers him a million dollars for his help. Joe, who dislikes his job, agrees, and the two set off across the country to serve the papers before Gordon can serve her, turning a simple legal errand into a scheme with an uncertain outcome.
Reginald Hudlin directed the film, which came after The Ladies Man in his chronological filmography and counts as his fifth feature. David Ronn and Jay Scherick wrote the screenplay, and Dan Halsted produced it for Mandalay Pictures. Matthew Perry plays Joe Tyler and Elizabeth Hurley plays Sara Moore, with Vincent Pastore, Bruce Campbell, Cedric the Entertainer and Amy Adams in supporting roles. The film is a broad studio comedy built around a mismatched pair thrown together by circumstance.

What's left behind the scenes
- Sarah's wardrobe for the second half of the film was chosen by Elizabeth Hurley herself, the actress who played the role. Director Reginald Hudlin approved her choices.
- Matthew Perry came up with many of his character's sarcastic remarks himself.
- The scene in which Matthew Perry’s character runs away from the truck driven by Tony, played by Vincent Pastore, was filmed while Perry had a broken leg. If he had stumbled for even a moment, he would have been run over.
- The hotel concierge was played by Mike Judge. According to Reginald Hudlin, the actor chosen for this small role fell ill, so Hudlin called Judge, and he agreed to come to the set.
- During filming in 2002, Matthew Perry spent some time in a rehabilitation center, where he was treated for painkiller addiction. His character’s noticeably changing weight throughout the film is due to his time at the center. Scenes without his character were filmed during Perry’s absence.
