Didy

This documentary follows Gaël Kamilindi as he searches for information about his mother, Didy, who died when he was five years old. To understand her life and reconcile with his past, he travels to Rwanda to speak with people who knew her. The film blends archival footage with testimonies from survivors to reconstruct a portrait of a woman whose history was obscured by exile and the turmoil of civil war, genocide, and the AIDS epidemic in Burundi and Rwanda.

The film was co-directed by François-Xavier Destors and Gaël Kamilindi, who also co-wrote the screenplay. For Destors, this project follows his 2018 film Melting Souls and precedes Toxicily, both released in 2024. For Kamilindi, this was his first directorial effort, followed by Taxi moto in 2026. Produced in France and Switzerland by companies including RTS and Adok Films, the project was overseen by producers José-Michel Buhler and Nathalie Demareuil. The final film has a runtime of 85 minutes.
