This documentary essay explores the history and impact of Russian imperialism. It centers on footage filmed in the late 1980s by Ukrainian filmmakers during several trips to remote areas of Siberia. These rolls of film were found in Kyiv in 2022 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Using this archival material, the film examines the oppression of indigenous people in Russian colonies and the destruction of the natural environment.
The film was written and directed by Oleksiy Radynski. In his body of work, this project follows Ceremonial Send-Off to the Army from 2019 and Film Dedicated to Water and Trees from 2023, and precedes Infinity According to Florian from 2025. Produced by Kinotron Group, the short film has a runtime of 25 minutes. Lyuba Knorozok served as producer and provides the voice for the narrator.
