They Call Me Hallelujah

They Call Me Hallelujah is an Italian Western set in Mexico in 1867, during the reign of Emperor Maximilian. A gunfighter known as Hallelujah is hired by General Emiliano Ramirez, a leader of the Juarista revolution, to seize a case of jewels that the general's enemies intend to use to buy weapons. Hallelujah expects a share of the loot for himself, but he is not the only one after the valuables. A Russian outlaw calling himself a grand duke, a gunrunner and a woman disguised as a nun all want the case, and when it turns out to hold fakes, the hunt becomes a cat-and-mouse game among the rival parties as they search for the real jewels. Hallelujah ends up joining forces with some of his competitors.

The film was directed by Giuliano Carnimeo, the first of the four titles listed for him, from a screenplay by Tito Carpi, and produced by Dario Sabatello for Colosseo Artistica. George Hilton plays Hallelujah, with Charles Southwood as the Russian, Agata Flori as the nun, Roberto Camardiel as General Ramirez, Federico Boido as Duke Slocum and Paolo Gozlino as Fortune.

It runs 94 minutes and was released on 8 April 1971. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 500 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.8 from a much smaller number of votes, so the two audiences agree closely on the film.
