Exit Through the Cuckoo’s Nest is a personal documentary short about a man who served as a soldier during the Balkan wars in the late 1990s despite his pacifist beliefs. The story follows his decision to refuse to fire his weapon, an act of defiance that resulted in his imprisonment by the military. The film uses a mix of archival footage, including anonymous surveillance video and private amateur recordings, which are visually altered to support the biographical narrative.
The film was directed by Nikola Ilić, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Marina Ćetković.
