Sleepless City is a drama set in La Cañada Real, a large illegal settlement on the outskirts of Madrid. The story follows Tonino, a fifteen-year-old Roma boy from a family of scrap metal collectors. As the community faces imminent evictions and demolitions, Tonino is caught between the desire for a new life and a deep connection to his heritage. This internal conflict is heightened by the departure of his best friend, Bilal, and his grandfather's refusal to abandon their land. To process his surroundings, Tonino uses a mobile phone to film the world around him, drawing inspiration from traditional legends.
The film was directed by Guillermo Galoe, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Victor Alonso-Berbel. It is a joint production between Spain and France, involving companies such as Les Films des Tournelles and Encanta Films. The cast features Antonio Fernández Gabarre in the lead role as Tonino, alongside Bilal Sedraoui, Jesús Fernández Silva, Felisa Romero Molina, Pura Salazar, and Francisca Jiménez. The production credits a total of 57 crew members.
