In a near-future world devastated by famine, war, and disease, Hailey Freeman and her family fight to protect their rural Canadian farm. As the descendants of African American farmers who settled the land following the American Civil War, the family must defend their property and resources against violent groups intent on seizing the land. The conflict tests their internal bonds and survival instincts as they face external threats in a landscape of scarcity.
