Am I Racist?

Am I Racist? is a 2024 American documentary comedy in which conservative commentator Matt Walsh goes undercover inside the diversity, equity and inclusion industry. Posing as a participant in workshops, training sessions and related encounters, he questions the consultants, authors and activists he meets, drawing out what the film presents as the contradictions and absurdities of their trade. The people appearing opposite him include writers Robin DiAngelo and Saira Rao and consultants Regina Jackson, Regan Byrd and Sarra Tekola, all playing themselves.

The film was directed by Justin Folk, who also wrote it with Walsh and Brian A. Hoffman; Folk had previously directed the 2022 documentary What Is a Woman?, his first feature, making this his second. Walsh, Folk and Charlotte Roland produced. Made for a reported three million dollars, it became a notable theatrical performer for a documentary, taking roughly twelve million dollars worldwide, a substantial multiple of its cost.

Audience response was moderate: on IMDb the film holds a 6.6 rating from around eighteen thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from about a hundred and sixteen votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10, drawn from sixteen reviews, is somewhat higher than either audience figure, though the small number of reviews makes that comparison a loose one. The result was a commercially successful release that placed Walsh's brand of undercover documentary filmmaking in cinemas rather than solely on streaming.
