A Fishermen's Tale

A fishing island on Lake Pátzcuaro, in Michoacán, is the setting for four interwoven stories about a malevolent lake spirit that stalks the residents and casts a shadow over their lives. The fishermen know the spirit as La Miringua, and it draws people into the water for their sins.

Edgar Nito directed and co-wrote the film with Alfredo Mendoza, and produced it alongside Pablo Cruz and Enrique López Lavigne. It is his second feature, following The Gasoline Thieves in 2019. The film is a Spain–Mexico co-production from El Estudio, Pirotecnia Films and the Mexican film funds EFICINE and FOCINE. Jorge A. Jimenez, Alejandra Herrera, Andrés Delgado, Renata Vaca, Hoze Meléndez and Daniela Momo lead a credited cast of twenty, and the running time is 103 minutes.

A Fishermen's Tale was released on 30 April 2025. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 28 votes, a small sample that suggests a modest, mixed response rather than a broad consensus. The blend of fantasy and horror places it in the same folk-horror territory as Nito's earlier work.
