In 17th-century Kerala, a folk singer from the Paanan caste named Thevan is fleeing slavery when he comes upon an old, decaying mansion. There he meets its master, Kodumon Potti, and the household's sole servant. After hearing the visitor sing, the master invites him to stay a few days. The singer accepts, unaware that leaving the house may not be simple. What follows draws him toward an ancient tradition that alters the course of his life.
