Retired government servant Raghavan Nair returns to his family home hoping to spend his remaining years in peace with his loved ones. That hope collapses when he finds his two sons locked in conflict over their opposing political loyalties, a quarrel that turns the household into a battleground and forces him to reckon with what his family has become.
Sathyan Anthikad directed the film, which sits between Kudumbapuranam and Ennum Nanmakal in a career that by then had already produced several notable Malayalam films. Sreenivasan wrote the screenplay, as he frequently did for Anthikad, and also appears as Prabhakaran Kottappalli; the cast is led by Thilakan as Raghavan Nair, alongside Jayaram, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Maathu. S. S. T. Subrahmaniam produced under the Evershine banner.
The film runs 137 minutes and mixes comedy and family drama with its political theme. Its reception has been especially strong with viewers: on IMDb it holds 9 out of 10 from about 6,300 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.9 out of 10 from 28 votes. The much larger vote count on IMDb, and the near-perfect average there, indicate a widely seen film that has become a lasting favourite in Malayalam cinema.
