Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee

Set in the years between the Sioux victory at the Little Big Horn in 1876 and the events at Wounded Knee in 1890, this drama follows the westward expansion of the United States and the pressure it placed on Native nations. Senator Henry Dawes pushes a policy meant to turn communal tribal land into individually owned plots, while the Lakota chief Sitting Bull resists the government's terms. Caught between these forces is Charles Eastman, a young Sioux educated in white schools and presented as evidence that assimilation works, who must reckon with what that education cost him.

The film is directed by Yves Simoneau, whose earlier credits include Perfectly Normal and 44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shoot-Out, and who later directed Horizon. It was written by Daniel Giat, with Dee Brown also credited, and produced by Clara George for HBO Films. The cast includes Aidan Quinn as Dawes, August Schellenberg as Sitting Bull, Colm Feore as General Sherman and Anna Paquin as Elaine Goodale, with Chevez Ezaneh playing the young Charles. It runs 125 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.1 from around 8,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from roughly 142 votes, indicating a favorable but not unanimous response.
