Airheads

Airheads follows a Los Angeles hard rock trio called the Lone Rangers, made up of Chazz, Rex and Pip. Convinced their demo tape deserves airplay but unable to get any label or station to listen, they take over a local rock radio station with toy and water pistols and demand that the DJ put their song on the air. What begins as a stunt turns serious once police surround the building.

Michael Lehmann directed the film, his third feature after Heathers (1989) and Hudson Hawk (1991), from a screenplay by Rich Wilkes. Brendan Fraser plays Chazz, with Steve Buscemi as Rex, Adam Sandler as Pip, Joe Mantegna as DJ Ian, Chris Farley as Officer Wilson and Judd Nelson as Jimmie Wing. Mark Burg and Robert Simonds produced the 92-minute comedy for 20th Century Fox, Robert Simonds Productions and Island World.

Released in August 1994, the film cost about 15 million US dollars and took roughly 6 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2/10 from around 60,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2/10 from about 857 votes, while critics gave it 4.3/10 across 37 reviews, a notably lower figure than either audience score.
