Set in Paris, this story follows Victoria Grant, a classically trained soprano who struggles to find employment. With the help of an eccentric acquaintance, she begins performing in nightclubs by pretending to be a man who impersonates a woman. While her new persona becomes a success, the situation becomes complicated when a nightclub owner and gangster from Chicago develops romantic feelings for the performer, believing him to be a man. This production was filmed live during its opening night at the Marquis Theatre in New York City on October 25, 1995.

The film was directed by Matthew Diamond, Goro Kobayashi, and Blake Edwards, who also wrote the screenplay. For Edwards, this was the 27th film in a series of 27 directed works, following Son of the Pink Panther. The cast features Julie Andrews in the lead role, alongside Michael Nouri, Tony Roberts, Rachel York, Gregory Jbara, and Richard B. Shull.
