Shall We Dance?

Shohei Sugiyama is a middle-aged accountant with a stable family life who feels a sense of emptiness. While commuting, he becomes fascinated by a woman he sees through a window at a ballroom dance studio. He begins taking secret lessons to be near her, eventually developing a deep passion for the dance itself. As he immerses himself in this new hobby, his wife becomes suspicious of his late arrivals and hires a private investigator to uncover the truth.

Directed and written by Masayuki Suō, this Japanese production was the first in a chronological list of two films for the director. The movie stars Koji Yakusho as Sugiyama and Tamiyo Kusakari as the dance instructor Mai. The cast includes Naoto Takenaka, Eri Watanabe, Akira Emoto, and Yuu Tokui, with a total of 28 credited performers.
