Among Mountains and Streams is a documentary centered on the encounter between painter Meng Huang and writer Ma Jian. While traveling through a forest during early autumn, the two men eventually find shelter in a cabin. Their time there is marked by somber reflections on their lives as exiles and the memories of the China they left behind. They discuss the nature of art and creativity as a means of responding to lies and oppression, specifically referencing how their perspectives were altered by the Tiananmen Square massacre and the persecution of human rights activists.
The film was directed and written by Jean-François Lesage, who also served as the producer. Produced by the Canadian company Les Films de L'Autre, the documentary has a runtime of 98 minutes. It was released on November 24, 2024.
