Short description
Mick O'Brien is a young criminal in Chicago who is sent to a juvenile detention center after a robbery ends in tragedy. Within the facility, he must navigate a brutal environment where violence is used to establish respect. The situation intensifies when Paco Moreno, a rival gang leader seeking revenge for the death of his brother, is incarcerated in the same prison. The two enemies face off in a setting dominated by intimidation and bloodlust.
Directed by Rick Rosenthal, this crime drama was released in 1983 as his second feature film, following Halloween II. The movie features a cast including Sean Penn, Esai Morales, and Ally Sheedy. It was produced by Universal Pictures, EMI Films, Associated Film Distribution, and Solofilm, with a screenplay written by Richard Di Lello.

What's left behind the scenes
- Actor Sean Penn wanted to better embody the role, for his character to have bad teeth – with crowns and, perhaps, a couple of gaps between them, but his mother, the daughter of a dentist, objected, stating that there was no need to ruin his beautiful teeth, even for the sake of the role.
- To prepare for the role, Sean Penn grew his hair long, asked for a tattoo to be drawn on his arm, and dressed like members of street gangs. Additionally, he and the film's director, Rick Rosenthal, even accompanied Chicago police officers on duty who specialized in dealing with street gangs. On one occasion, Penn himself was mistaken for a gang member.
- During the filming of a scene where his character runs through the forest after escaping, Sean Penn broke his leg. This forced a halt to filming for 8 weeks.
- All the actors performed their own stunts.
- Real correctional officers from juvenile detention facilities and their wards played cameo roles in some scenes of the film.
- Constructing the set for the juvenile correctional facility in Chicago cost half a million dollars.
- Sean Penn insisted on being called by the same name as his character – Mick O'Brien – during filming. Moreover, when he spent a week filming at another correctional facility (strict regime), his uniform name tag read “Mick O’Brien.”
