Writing Hawa

This documentary explores the life of Hawa and her family members in Afghanistan. Through a personal lens, director Najiba Noori examines the challenges faced by her mother and niece as they seek independence. The film highlights how geopolitical violence and the return of the Taliban in August 2021 reversed progress regarding the rights of women. It also focuses on the experiences of the Hazara people, an ethnic group that has historically faced persecution and discrimination.

Najiba Noori directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Afsaneh Salari and Ali Rasul Noori. This production was a collaboration between several countries, including Afghanistan, France, the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles, and Qatar. The project was supported by production companies such as ARTE, CNC, DFI, and PROCIREP, with Christian Popp, Hasse van Nunen, and Renko Douze serving as producers. The film has a total runtime of 84 minutes.
