Set in the town of Võru in a remote part of Estonia, this documentary focuses on a man named Kalju. For several years, Kalju has spent his time working alone to construct a 19-meter observation tower. The film explores his motivations for undertaking such a demanding physical task in solitude and examines how he maintains his own convictions and pace of life despite the chaos of the modern world.
Torn was directed by Kullar Viimne and produced by Erik Norkroos. It is the first of two films directed by Viimne listed in the records, preceding The Daily Photographer. The production was handled by the Estonian company Rühm Pluss Null. The film has a total runtime of 87 minutes.
