Scrooge

Scrooge is a musical retelling of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, set in 1860 London. Ebenezer Scrooge is a wealthy but miserly moneylender who has no patience for the festive season, treats his clerk Bob Cratchit poorly and keeps his nephew Fred at a distance. On Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that three spirits will come to him in turn, each showing him something about his past, his present and what may lie ahead. The encounters push him toward changing how he lives.

The film was directed by Ronald Neame, whose other work includes The Million Pound Note (1954), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), The Odessa File (1974) and Meteor (1979). Leslie Bricusse wrote the screenplay, and Robert H. Solo produced. Albert Finney plays Scrooge, with Alec Guinness as Marley's ghost, Edith Evans as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Kenneth More as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Laurence Naismith as Mr. Fezziwig and Michael Medwin as Fred. Around 48 cast members are credited.
