Three Wishes for Cinderella

Three Wishes for Cinderella follows a young woman named Popelka, who lives as a servant in her stepmother's household after her father's death. Resourceful and independent, she spends her days on chores and takes comfort in the friendship of an owl. In the forest she meets a prince, and the two fall for each other, though a match between them seems out of reach. Everything changes when she obtains three magical acorns, each granting her a single wish, which allow her to appear before the prince in different guises. Her stepmother, meanwhile, is determined to marry her own daughter to the prince, who has his own reasons for wanting to leave the palace.

The film is a Czechoslovak and East German co-production directed by Václav Vorlíček, who wrote the screenplay with František Pavlíček. It was the first of the two features listed among Vorlíček's directing credits, preceding Rumburak by about a decade. Libuše Šafránková plays Popelka, with Pavel Trávníček as the prince, Carola Braunbock as the stepmother and Rolf Hoppe as the king. The cast and crew number 41 and 50 respectively.
