Don Jon

Don Jon is an American comedy-drama about Jon Martello, a young New Jersey man whose friends call him Don Jon because of his success with women. He spends his weekends pursuing one-night stands, yet none of these encounters satisfy him the way the pornography he watches alone at his computer does. When he meets Barbara Sugarman, a woman who wants a serious relationship rather than a casual fling, he tries to change his habits to keep her. Their differences in outlook, shaped by fantasies about the opposite sex, make a real relationship difficult. A later encounter with Esther, an older woman who understands him, leads Jon to reconsider his life and his attitude toward intimacy.

The film was released in 2013 and marked Joseph Gordon-Levitt's debut as a director and screenwriter after establishing himself as an actor. He also produces through HitRecord Films and plays the lead, supported by Scarlett Johansson as Barbara, Julianne Moore as Esther, Tony Danza as Jon's father, Glenne Headly as his mother and Brie Larson as his sister. The 56-strong credited cast fills out a story rooted in family, church and friendship.

Made for about 3 million dollars, the film earned solid returns relative to that modest budget. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 out of 10 from some 255,000 votes, while on TMDB it rates 6 out of 10 from a much smaller body of voters. A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 202 reviews places it close to, and slightly above, the audience scores.
