First Daughter

Samantha Mackenzie, the daughter of the U.S. president, wants to attend college like any other student, free of the constant presence of the Secret Service. Her father, President Mackenzie, agrees to let her go without visible protection, but arranges for a young agent to enroll as a student and watch over her from a distance. Samantha settles into campus life and grows close to a fellow student, James Lansome, unaware of his real role. The situation becomes complicated as their relationship deepens and the truth about his identity threatens to surface.

First Daughter is a 2004 American romantic comedy directed by Forest Whitaker, the fourth film he directed, following Strapped, Waiting to Exhale and Hope Floats. Katie Holmes plays Samantha, with Marc Blucas as James, Michael Keaton as the president, Margaret Colin as the first lady and Amerie as Samantha's friend Mia. The screenplay is by Jessica Bendinger and Kate Kondell, and the film runs 105 minutes.

The film had a budget of 30 million USD and took in about 11 million USD worldwide, a return well below its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from roughly 31,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from about a thousand votes.
