Short description

Samantha MacKenzie, the daughter of the president of the United States, arrives at college with a group of Secret Service agents. Samantha, however, resents their presence and decides she wants to attend school just like a normal student. Her father agrees to recall the agents but secretly assigns James, an undercover agent, to pose as a student. They fall in love, but their romance is jeopardized when Samantha learns James' true identity.

All of the main character's ball gowns (played by Katie Holmes) are by Vera Wang.
James and Samantha (played by Marc Blucas and Katie Holmes) watch Frank Tashlin's musical comedy 'That Certain Something' (1956) in a cinema. At one point, it was suggested that 'First Daughter' director Forest Whitaker would film a remake of it.
In one of the scenes, Katie Holmes' character descends a metal ladder barefoot. The scene had to be filmed in a single take because the actress was in a great deal of pain.
During the ride episode, as Samantha and Mia (played by Katie Holmes and Ameri Rogers, respectively) were climbing out of the water, Holmes accidentally pulled off Rogers' pants. Director Forest Whitaker preferred to keep this take in the film because it looked natural.
