Short description

This documentary follows a group of teenagers attending a traditional folk high school in the Norwegian Arctic. Isolated from the rest of the world, the students must navigate the transition to adulthood by relying on their peers, their own resilience, and a team of sled dogs. The film focuses on the personal growth and unexpected developments the students experience in this remote setting.

Folktales was co-directed by Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing, who also served as the film's producers. This project marks the third collaboration between the two directors, following their work on Freakonomics in 2010 and Endangered in 2022. A joint production between Norway and the United States, the film was produced by Topic Studios, Fifth Season, Impact Partners, and Magnolia Pictures.

The film has a runtime of 106 minutes. Since its release on July 25, 2025, it has received a generally positive response from viewers, holding a rating of 7.2/10 on IMDb based on 474 votes.
